Your weekend at Ope

Upon arrival: There’s no official check-in requirement, but Aaron would appreciate a text message on Friday with your group’s ETA. It’s best to stay in touch with Aaron via text messages throughout the weekend, emails will go unseen.

Parking: The lower parking lot and driveways can be used until there is too much snow or ice in winter.  Preferred parking is at the upper parking lot or the overflow lot on either side of Hanna Road. You are welcome to park a few Scouters' cars at the edge of Clement’s Field or in the Cub Field. The Barker/Armstrong field is off-limits to vehicles.

Water: Clean drinking water can be found at the Ablutions bathroom building at the centre of camp. You will find an outdoor tap on the left side of the building. There’s also an outdoor tap beside the Dining Hall front stairs. In lodges with no water, and when the water system is shut down, dishes should be washed in a basin. Please throw your dirty dish water down the KYBO pit to keep the wildlife away.

Meals:  If you have paid for catering, your meals will be prepared and served in the Dining Hall by the volunteers of the Opemikon Rover Crew. Meal times are:

>Mug-up 9:00pm

>Breakfast 8:00am

>Lunch 12:00pm

>Dinner 5:30pm

(unless otherwise coordinated with the Crew)

Please be ready to confirm any changes in numbers or dietary restrictions before arrival.

Bathrooms: Each site and lodge has a designated KYBO (pit toilet building). The Ablutions bathroom building is available year-round for use by all at camp.

Firewood: Firewood is free of charge. There’s dry, split wood in the shed next to the Drake Lodge at the centre of camp. Please help yourself, but be mindful of usage.

Fires must always be

>modest in size,

>made only inside of designated fire pits,

> extinguished every night and never left unsupervised

For those in the Venturer Cabin, there is firewood stored by the front door. Remember that the cabin is not insulated, you should plan on it taking a few hours to warm up. There is no potable water at the cabin, bring jugs from home or fill them at the Ablutions bathroom building.

Emergencies: The Dining Hall is heated and may be used as an emergency shelter in case of an extreme weather event or as a warming station. An AED can be found in the kitchen of the Dining Hall.
